London, Ontario
Pick the street before the house.
You can change almost everything about a house. You cannot change what is outside it. Honest write-ups of the areas I know well — including what people find out after they move in.

Byron
Byron is where London families end up when they want space without leaving the city. Tree-lined crescents, ravine lots backing onto Warbler Woods, and Boler Mountain at the end of the street. Springbank Park is a five-minute drive. The trade-off is a longer commute east and a premium on anything backing green space.

$500k – $900k
Old South
Century homes with real woodwork, walkable to Wortley Village — repeatedly named one of Canada's great neighbourhoods. Expect knob-and-tube surprises, small closets and charm you cannot build. Parking is street-side on many blocks, and that matters more in February than people expect.
- Wortley Village
- Thames Park
- Tecumseh PS
- Downtown in 10 min

$700k – $1.4M
Masonville
North London's anchor: Masonville Place, University Hospital, and a short run to Western. The school catchments here move prices on their own. Newer builds mixed with 1980s executive homes on generous lots. Traffic on Richmond at 4pm is the honest downside.
- Masonville Place
- Western University
- University Hospital
- Stoney Creek YMCA

$750k – $1.3M
Riverbend
One of the newest pockets in the city, west along the river. Modern layouts, attached garages, and a golf course threaded through it. Almost everything is under twenty years old, which means fewer surprises and a smaller renovation budget. Amenities are still a drive away.
- Riverbend Golf
- Thames Valley trail
- Quick 402 access
- New-build warranties

$550k – $1M
Old North
Wide streets, mature maples, and some of the best-preserved brick homes in London. Popular with faculty and families who want walkability without downtown. Rental conversions near Western are worth checking carefully — I always pull the permit history here.
- Western University
- Gibbons Park
- St. George's PS
- Richmond Row

$600k – $950k
Hyde Park
Northwest London's practical choice: newer subdivisions, everything you need within a five-minute drive, and easy access out to the 402. Lots are generally smaller than Byron's and the streetscape is younger, but the value per square foot is among the best in the city.
- Hyde Park shopping
- Sherwood Forest
- 402 access
- Newer construction

$550k – $950k
Wortley Village
The commercial heart of Old South and its own small market. Coffee, restaurants and independent shops at the corner of Wortley and Bruce. Homes turn over rarely and go quickly when they do. If you want it, be ready to move on short notice.
- Village shops
- Thames Park
- Walk score
- Downtown adjacent

$650k – $1.2M
Lambeth
Technically London, functionally its own small town in the southwest. Larger lots, some acreage, and quick access to the 401 and 402 for anyone commuting. Popular with buyers who want elbow room without a rural address or a well.
- 401 & 402 access
- Larger lots
- Lambeth PS
- Village core
